The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has officially taken his oath as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, has been installed as the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Both will hold their respective positions for a duration of five years, commencing from January 31, 2019. This transition follows the early abdication of the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V of Kelantan, on January 6, 2019, after a reign of just over two years from his initial five-year term which began on December 13, 2016.
Swearing-in Ceremony Details

The formal swearing-in and signing of the instruments of office for the new Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong took place during the 252nd (Special) Meeting of the Conference of Rulers. This significant event was held at the Balairung Seri (Throne Room) of Istana Negara, beginning at 10:55 AM. The meeting was presided over by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
Attendance of Malay Rulers

The assembly saw the participation of all the Malay Rulers, with the exception of the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V. His absence was noted as he was represented by the Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan, Tengku Dr Muhammad Faiz Petra Sultan Ismail Petra. Other Malay Rulers present included the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar; the Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah; the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail; the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin; and the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir.
Dignitaries Present

In addition to the Malay Rulers, several Yang Dipertua Negeri, who are the governors of the non-royal Malaysian states, were also in attendance. These included the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka, Tun Dr Mohd Khalil Yaakob; the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Penang, Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas; the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud; and the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin. The Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, accompanied by his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, and the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, were also present to witness the ceremony.
