Other Support Measures for School Service Contractors

The Ministry of Education (MOE) has implemented several support measures for school service contractors beyond rental exemptions. These measures aim to alleviate financial pressures and ensure continued operations for businesses operating within educational institutions. The initiatives are intended to assist both the service providers and their employees who have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Rental Exemption for School Premises

Contractors renting canteen space and other premises or areas within MOE-administered schools will receive a six-month rental exemption starting from July. This exemption specifically applies to businesses such as book shops, cooperatives, launderettes, and those operating vending machines whose operations have been affected by Phase One of the Movement Control under the National Recovery Plan (PPN).
Automatic Contract Extensions

In addition to rental relief, MOE will grant an automatic one-year contract extension to those renting canteens and other spaces at schools. This extension will be provided upon the expiry of their original contracts, offering a degree of operational continuity and security for these service providers.
Contract Adjustments and Full Payments for Specific Services

The MOE has also agreed to extend contracts for contractors involved in the supply of cooked food (BMB) programme. These extensions will consider the duration during which their services were affected. Furthermore, for Building and Area Cleanliness (KBK) services, contractors will receive full payment as stipulated in their contracts, which is intended to prevent any necessity for salary cuts for their employees.
