Carousell Group partnered with Vaayu, a European climate tech company, to quantify its environmental impact. Vaayu utilized proprietary artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies, along with its extensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) database comprising over 600,000 product data points. This robust methodology was applied to calculate the avoided carbon emissions within the report's scope, which initially focused on Fashion & Luxury, Electronics, Furniture & Home Living, and Hobbies & Toys.
Increased Engagement with Secondhand Market

Beyond the displacement of new purchases, the report also indicated a growing consumer inclination towards secondhand goods. On average, across Carousell marketplace's six primary markets, 55% of surveyed users reported an increase in both buying and selling secondhand items in 2022 when compared to the previous year. This suggests a broader trend of adoption and integration of recommerce into consumer habits within the region.
