The survey indicated that a considerable number of Malaysian organisations reported facing a high volume of cybersecurity incidents. Specifically, around half of the surveyed entities experienced over 10 such events in the preceding twelve months. These incidents were predominantly linked to common threats such as web attacks, phishing attempts, and compromised business emails, often with the intent of deploying spyware, ransomware, or achieving financial gain.
Significant Financial and Operational Impact

Beyond the frequency of attacks, cybersecurity incidents have had a substantial financial toll on Malaysian businesses. Nearly half, or 48 per cent, of respondents reported incurring financial losses of at least US$1 million (RM4.67 million) due to these events over the last year. Moreover, organisations cited non-financial impacts as severe, including the loss of data or intellectual property, damage to their reputation, and a reduction in their customer base.
Limited Preparedness and Key Challenges

Despite the prevalence of cyber threats, a significant gap exists in preparedness. Only 37 per cent of Malaysian respondents expressed feeling "highly prepared" to prevent cybersecurity incidents. A primary obstacle identified in achieving better cybersecurity readiness is the shortage of skilled professionals within organisations. This deficiency can lead to critical operational disruptions, with 35 per cent of respondents indicating that incidents could result in paused growth plans, temporary suspension of operations, restrictions on hybrid work arrangements, and mandatory reporting to authorities. The survey involved 4,009 cybersecurity decision-makers and leaders across 14 markets, including between 203 and 426 respondents from Malaysia, and was conducted in July of the current year.
