The IRGC warned vessels against using this passage, asserting that only transit routes designated by the Islamic Republic of Iran are authorised. The attack on the cargo ship led to the suspension of a program to evacuate approximately 11,000 mariners who were stranded due to the closure of the strait.

Prior to the suspension, a total of about 115 vessels and 2,500 seafarers had been evacuated since Tuesday, according to the IMO. Concerns Remain Despite Increased Traffic

The price of Brent North Sea crude oil, the international benchmark, dropped over five percent on Friday amid optimism about the strait's reopening. However, shipping journal Lloyd’s List editor-in-chief Richard Meade stated that the increased traffic is driven by a "ceasefire-driven release of pent-up demand" rather than a fundamental improvement in safety. He added that the Strait of Hormuz is not safer, and a return to normality is currently more hopeful than forecast until the terms of any post-ceasefire regime are known and respected.
