These actions range from advising friends and family against supporting the brand (30%) to reporting organisational content as misleading (17%) and leaving negative reviews or public comments (15%). Actively avoiding content (14%), directly contacting the organisation with concerns (12%), and posting personal experiences on social media (10%) are other forms of vocal backlash.

The primary drivers for consumers abandoning a brand or organisation due to a breakdown in belief are directly linked to operational execution and communication. A significant 34% cited that products and services did not deliver on their promises, while 29% were prompted to disengage due to the brand mishandling an issue or mistake. Poor business ethics also played a role for 27% of consumers. Furthermore, exaggerated or misleading communications led to disengagement for 25% of consumers, and unresponsiveness to issues affected 24%.
