High AI Adoption in Malaysia

The survey, which polled approximately 10,000 affluent and high-net-worth individuals across 10 markets, indicated that 85 per cent of Malaysian respondents currently utilise AI for financial purposes. This places Malaysia among the top three markets globally for AI adoption in finance, alongside mainland China (85 per cent) and India (86 per cent). Beyond financial applications, a considerable proportion of Malaysians also employ AI for work and career advancement, as well as for personal development, with 64 per cent reporting usage in both these areas.
Continued Reliance on Human Financial Professionals

Despite the widespread use of AI, financial professionals and institutions remain the primary source for investment ideas, cited by 65 per cent of Malaysian respondents. Furthermore, human expertise is identified as the most influential factor in investment decisions, accounting for 39 per cent of influence, significantly higher than AI tools at 16 per cent. This indicates that while AI is a valuable tool, it has not supplanted the trust and strategic guidance provided by human advisors.
Value Placed on Human Insight and Trust

Affluent investors in Malaysia turn to financial professionals and institutions for reassurance, with 85 per cent seeking their input, and 76 per cent valuing their strategic expertise. Key areas where human insight is particularly sought include spotting errors in AI-generated data (31 per cent), offering personalised interpretations of complex financial data (31 per cent), and providing essential judgment and validation (30 per cent). This underscores the perception that technology offers speed, while human interaction builds the trust necessary for complex financial planning.
