New Biogas Plant Developments

SDP Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd (SDPRE), a subsidiary of SDP, is set to co-develop two new biogas power plants in collaboration with Cenergi RE Sdn Bhd (Cenergi). These facilities will be located at the Sungai Dingin estate in Kedah and the Kok Foh estate in Negri Sembilan within SDP’s Malaysian operations. The formal agreement for this partnership was established through a term sheet signed on October 9, 2021.
Existing and Under Construction Facilities

Cenergi has a history of developing biogas power plants for SDP, having already established three operational plants for SDP’s palm oil mills. An additional two plants are currently under construction, with expected completion dates in November 2021 and mid-2022, respectively. These developments contribute to SDP’s broader strategy for renewable energy solutions.
Contribution to Emission Reduction Targets

The group managing director of SDP, Mohamad Helmy Othman Basha, highlighted that these renewable energy efforts are crucial for meeting emission reduction goals. The company is on track to achieve its target of a 40 per cent reduction by 2030. The current biogas plans are instrumental in this progress, with the expected 28 per cent reduction by the end of 2022 representing a significant milestone.
Future Expansion of Biogas Infrastructure

Beyond the two new plants under development, SDP currently operates 11 biogas plants across Malaysia, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. The company plans further expansion, with nine additional biogas plants scheduled to become operational in 2022. This strategic growth aims to increase the total number of biogas plants to 31 by the year 2030.
