The suspension of these plants directly led to an unscheduled disruption of water supply across 273 areas, affecting 309,605 accounts in the districts of Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, and Sepang.
Elevated Odour Readings Necessitated Plant Shutdown

The severity of the odour pollution was quantified by threshold odour number (TON) readings. Yesterday, readings at the intake point of Sungai Semenyih were between three and four TON. By last night, the Bukit Tampoi WTP recorded readings exceeding 11 TON. This morning at 9:30 am, the odour measurement remained high at eight TON and was described as being at an unstable level, necessitating the continued halt of operations.
Conditional Resumption of Water Treatment

The resumption of operations at both WTPs is contingent upon a significant reduction in odour levels. Specifically, the plants can only recommence operations once the odour reading falls to zero TON. This condition is a standard operational parameter to ensure the quality and safety of the treated water supplied to consumers.
Dilution Efforts Underway to Mitigate Pollution

To address the pollution and aid in the reduction of odour levels, efforts are being made to dilute the contaminated river water. Two pumps have been mobilised to supply 27 million litres of water per day into Sungai Langat, and a further 300 MLD is being directed into Sungai Semenyih. These measures aim to hasten the process of reducing the odour concentration in the affected waterways.
