Kenneth Jeyaretnam took over the leadership of Singapore’s Reform Party in April 2009. He assumed this role following the death of his father, Opposition pioneer JB Jeyaretnam, who had founded the party in 2008.

Jeyaretnam became the leader of the Reform Party in April 2009, stepping into the political arena after his father, JB Jeyaretnam, passed away in September 2008. His father, a significant figure in Singapore's political history, had established the Reform Party just months prior.
Political Career and Electoral Contests

As the leader of the Reform Party, Kenneth Jeyaretnam contested in three general elections. These included bids in West Coast GRC in 2011 and 2015, and in Ang Mo Kio GRC in 2020, where he challenged a People’s Action Party team led by then-Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
Participation in By-election

In addition to general elections, Jeyaretnam also participated in the 2013 Punggol East by-election. This by-election was triggered by the resignation of a People’s Action Party Member of Parliament. Jeyaretnam, along with another candidate, secured less than 2 per cent of the total votes cast in that contest.
