This significant shift, announced on November 1, 2024, aims to enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness by embracing digital transformation. The initiative aligns with the government's broader push for digitalisation, focusing on inclusivity, security, and transparency in public services.
Expansion of Payment Options

The transition involves the deployment of card terminals at KTMB stations, which will accept a wide array of payment methods beyond traditional cash. Passengers can now use MyDebit cards, as well as major credit and debit cards. Furthermore, the system will accommodate popular mobile payment solutions, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay, facilitating seamless transactions for a diverse user base.
Existing Cashless Adoption Rates

Prior to the full implementation, KTMB had already observed substantial adoption of cashless payment methods among its passengers. As of November 2024, approximately 82 per cent of passengers were utilising online payments for ETS and Shuttle Tebrau services through the KTMB mobile application. Similarly, the KTM Komuter service in the Klang Valley and Northern regions saw 71 per cent of its passengers already going cashless.
Nationwide Implementation and User Registration

This comprehensive cashless payment initiative will be rolled out across all KTMB operational regions, encompassing the Klang Valley, Northern, Southern, and East Coast areas. The rail operator has also seen considerable engagement with its digital platforms, registering over 3 million accounts for ticket purchases across ETS, KTM Intercity, Shuttle Tebrau, and KTM Komuter services by November 2024.
