Physical works for Packages 2 through 5 of the Juru–Sungai Dua Toll Plaza Traffic Dispersal Project are expected to commence in the third quarter of this year. Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the expansion will cover this next set of packages after Package 1 is already underway.

Chow said the physical works for the next four packages, covering Package 2 to Package 5, are expected to begin in the third quarter of this year. This timing is tied to the project moving into the next phase as the technical scope is finalised.
The update comes while Package 1 is already in progress
Package 1 began physical works in October last year and is currently trending ahead of schedule. Using a 24-month construction timeline provided by the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), Package 1 is expected to be operational by the end of 2027.

The expansion covering Packages 2 to 5 is intended to complete the critical alignment from the Juru Toll Plaza to Sungai Dua. This forms part of a broader effort to address long-standing congestion along the North-South Expressway (PLUS) corridor.

The PTJSD has an overall completion target of 2030. The project is framed as a response to heavy traffic on the PLUS corridor, which sees an average flow of more than 200,000 vehicles per day.
