Kedah police detained two men and seized 1.35 tonnes of ketum leaves during an operation dubbed Op Bersepadu Luaran at the Gurun rest and recreation (R&R) area. The suspects were believed to have obtained the leaves from Pokok Sena. The intended destination for the seized leaves was Kluang and Johor Baru in Johor.
Discovery During R&R Stop

A patrol team observed a lorry exhibiting suspicious driving behaviour at the Gurun R&R area along the North-South Expressway. Upon flagging down the vehicle for inspection at approximately 11:30 pm, officers discovered 135 black plastic packages. These packages contained what is believed to be ketum leaves, with a total weight of 1.35 tonnes.
Suspects' Alleged Origin and Destination

The two detained individuals, both aged 36, are understood to have acquired the ketum leaves in Pokok Sena. The leaves were reportedly being transported southwards to be delivered to Kluang and Johor Baru in Johor. Further investigation into the matter is being conducted.
Legal Proceedings and Operation Scope

The suspects have been taken to the Kuala Muda district police headquarters for further investigation. They are being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952. The operation, which commenced at 9 pm, involved a multi-agency effort including personnel from the state Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, Road Transport Department (RTD), National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), Department of Environment, and PLUS Malaysia Bhd.
