This initial phase of testing is designed to identify any potential issues before the commencement of the Proof of Concept (POC) exercise. The smart tram, developed by China’s CRRC Zhuzhou Institute Co Ltd, underwent full assembly over two weeks following its arrival on August 5.
Route of the Engineering Run

The test run will be conducted along a specific loop within the Isthmus area, traversing Jalan Keruing. This route will pass by several key landmarks, including Menara LCDA, Menara SEDC, Menara Sarawak Energy, and the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK). The purpose of this defined route is to systematically evaluate the tram's performance in a controlled environment.
Duration and Stabling of the Prototype

This engineering run is slated to run from September 4 until October 31. During this period, the hydrogen vehicle will be stabled at the Kuching Port Authority’s Pending Terminal. Refuelling operations for the prototype ART hydrogen vehicle will also be conducted at the Pending Terminal, utilising a mobile hydrogen refuelling station.
Preparations and Notifications

To facilitate the engineering run, road closures in certain sections of the Isthmus will begin on August 23. These closures will be formally advertised on Sarawak Metro’s social media platforms and in local newspapers from August 22. This initiative aims to inform residents and employees working in the vicinity, allowing them to adjust their travel routines during the two-month testing period.
