This newly approved bureau will comprise 50 new positions, intended to bolster enforcement efforts against environmental crimes. The establishment of the WCB follows successful operations like Ops Bersepadu Khazanah, which has shown a marked increase in enforcement actions. In the period from January to July this year, there were 60 cases recorded, a substantial rise from the 30 cases during the same period last year. This intensified enforcement also led to a significant increase in arrests, with 97 individuals apprehended compared to 29 in the previous year, and a substantial increase in the value of seized items, reaching RM3,831,987 this year against RM537,490 last year.
