The late-night inspection on June 25 was jointly conducted by Kuala Lumpur City Hall, known as DBKL, and the Ministry of Health. Inspectors checked 45 food premises along Jalan Alor and later closed six eateries after finding serious hygiene breaches, including rats, cockroaches and improper food storage.
DBKL led the operation on Jalan Alor
DBKL said the operation was carried out to keep cleanliness, food safety and licensing compliance at the required level. The city authority worked with the Ministry of Health during the enforcement exercise.
Forty-five food premises were inspected
The inspection covered 45 food premises along the Bukit Bintang dining strip. The checks uncovered offences such as poor cleanliness, badly maintained grease traps and food handlers without typhoid vaccinations.
Six eateries were ordered to close
Six food premises were ordered shut under By-Law 28(1) of the Kuala Lumpur Food Establishment Licensing By-Laws 2016. DBKL said the closures were for failing to comply with the prescribed hygiene requirements.
Seventy-four notices and compounds were issued
DBKL issued 74 notices and compounds under several laws, including food licensing, food handlers, smoking control and building regulations. The authority said it would continue stepping up enforcement to ensure compliance in the capital.
