Malaysia will host a Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) summit in October, aiming to accelerate its implementation and reinforce its significance as the world's largest free-trade area. This bloc encompasses 15 nations, including all 10 Asean members, alongside Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand. Collectively, these countries account for a substantial 30 per cent of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
RCEP Member Nations

The RCEP agreement brings together a significant portion of the Asia-Pacific region. Its membership comprises the ten member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), which are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. In addition to the Asean bloc, the partnership includes four major East Asian economies and one Oceania nation: Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand.

The upcoming RCEP summit, to be convened by Malaysia alongside the 47th Asean Summit, is intended to be more than a ceremonial gathering. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has articulated the goal of using this platform to review the progress of the agreement and to actively push for its deeper implementation. The focus is on ensuring that the RCEP moves beyond its legal framework to be infused with renewed political energy and practical application.
