Contract Scope and Components

The system turnkey contract encompasses seven primary railway systems packages. These include electric trains and depot equipment, signalling and train control systems alongside automatic platform gates, trackwork, conductor rail, and maintenance vehicles. Additionally, the scope covers power supply and distribution systems, railway supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and computerised maintenance management systems, telecommunications and information technology systems, and the automatic fare collection system.
Project Progress and Civil Works

The Penang Mutiara LRT Line has maintained steady progress, reaching key delivery milestones in engineering design, construction planning, land readiness, and railway systems implementation. MRT Corp, acting as the asset owner and project manager, is actively coordinating various workstreams to keep the project on schedule. A significant focus currently lies on completing detailed construction drawings for Civil Main Contract 1 (CMC1), which involves critical infrastructure such as pile caps, piers, viaducts, and stations from Silicon Island to Komtar. Construction reference drawings have been issued to the contractor, and detailed designs are nearing finalisation.
Construction Advancement and Land Acquisition

The parallel design-and-build approach has facilitated ongoing construction without waiting for the full design package completion. Consequently, construction has advanced with 45 pile caps and 32 pier columns built, and construction activities are active across 14 of the 19 planned construction sections under CMC1. Regarding land acquisition for CMC1, 93 per cent of the total required acreage has been made available for construction. Furthermore, soil investigation works have begun at the reclaimed Silicon Island, a vital step for future depot construction in this key alignment section. Site preparation and old structure removal are complete at the Tapak Pesta site, allowing construction to commence soon.
