Malaysian Expressways Involved in Minimum Speed Limit Pilot

The pilot project for implementing minimum advisory speed limits is currently being tested on three specific stretches of Malaysian expressways: the North-South Expressway (PLUS) E1, the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) E26, and another section of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) E2. These locations have been selected to gather data on how advisory minimum speeds might influence driver behaviour and improve traffic flow.
North-South Expressway (PLUS) E1 and E2 Sections

Two segments of the North-South Expressway are included in this trial. On the E1 northbound carriageway, the pilot covers the stretch between KM400.1 and KM388.0, specifically the area between Tanjung Malim and Behrang. Additionally, a section of the PLUS E2 northbound, from KM267.8 to KM278.8 between Bandar Ainsdale and Nilai, is also part of the initiative.
South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) E26 Segment

The SKVE E26 is also participating in the proof-of-concept. The pilot is being conducted on the section between KM9.6 and KM16.7, encompassing the area from the Ayer Hitam Toll Plaza to Bandar Saujana Putra. This inclusion allows for the assessment of the advisory speed limits on a different major highway.
Pilot Project Objectives and Duration

The primary aim of this pilot, which runs until October 31, is to evaluate the effectiveness of minimum advisory speeds in curbing lane hogging and reducing traffic congestion. Data collected from these three expressways will be crucial in determining whether the initiative can be expanded nationwide. The project is a collaboration between the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros), the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), PLUS Malaysia Berhad, and SKVE.
