Prof Datuk Dr Tengku Aizan Tengku Abdul Hamid, the former director of the Malaysian Research Institute of Ageing, received the National Women’s Senior Citizen Award. The award was presented in conjunction with the 2022 National Senior Citizen’s Day. Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah bestowed the honour at a ceremony held at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre.
Recognition for Education and Research Contributions

Tengku Aizan, aged 64, was recognised for her extensive involvement in education and research, a commitment she has maintained since 2002. Her work has significantly contributed to the empowerment of the elderly, both nationally and internationally, through the formulation of various policies specifically targeting this demographic.
Broader Awards Presented at the Ceremony

The ceremony, organised by the Social Welfare Department (JKM), also saw other individuals and centres recognised. The Senior Citizen Activity Centre received an award for its active role in organising programmes for the elderly. Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun presented this award.
Other Notable Recipients

Several other awards were also presented, including the Senior Citizen in the Arts award to veteran actress Fauziah Nawi, 69, for her over 40 years of contribution to the arts and multiple Best Actress awards. Tan Sri Wan Mahmood Pawan Teh, president of the National Association of Retired Civil Servants, received the Senior Citizen award in the field of volunteering (non-governmental organisation), acknowledging his work towards Malaysia becoming an ageing nation by 2030.
