Sultan Ismail Petra, the former ruler of Kelantan and father of the current Sultan Muhammad V, passed away on September 28th. He reigned as the 28th Sultan of Kelantan from March 30, 1980, until May 2009, and was succeeded by his son on September 13, 2010.
Passing of Sultan Ismail Petra

Sultan Ismail Petra died at 8:11 am on September 28th at the Royal Ward of Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital in Kota Baru. He was 69 years old at the time of his passing. The news of his death was officially announced by Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob.
Reign and Succession

The late Sultan Ismail Petra served as the Sultan of Kelantan for nearly three decades, commencing his reign on March 30, 1980, and concluding in May 2009. Following his reign, his son, Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra, ascended to the throne as Sultan Muhammad V on September 13, 2010.
Health and Funeral Arrangements

Sultan Ismail Petra had been experiencing ill health for over a year, having suffered a stroke. Following his death, his remains were to be taken to Istana Balai Besar to allow dignitaries and the public to pay their final respects. He was scheduled to be laid to rest at the Langgar Royal Mausoleum after Asar prayers. A state holiday was declared for Sunday and Monday in observance of his passing.
