Management of Athletes in Tokyo

The day-to-day management of the Malaysian contingent at the Games Village will be overseen by Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin Najib. He will be present in Tokyo to ensure the athletes are well-supported throughout the duration of the Games.
Continued Role of Chef de Mission

Despite his inability to travel to Tokyo, Datuk Lee Chong Wei will retain his position as chef de mission. The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) decided to keep him in this role, recognising his significant stature and connection with Malaysians.
Online Engagement and Support

From Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Lee Chong Wei will maintain contact with the athletes and the Malaysian camp. He is expected to monitor their performances and offer encouragement through online platforms from the commencement of the Tokyo Olympics on July 23 until its conclusion on August 8. The Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, has assured that Chong Wei's absence will not hinder the team's preparation or morale, particularly given the unique circumstances of the Games due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
