Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul urged Members of Parliament to undergo regular health screenings after an MP was hospitalised at the National Heart Institute (IJN). He said the annual health screening programme for MPs will continue this year in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH), after being implemented since 2023. Johari added that screenings are valuable for identifying health problems at an early stage, so preventive and proactive steps can be taken through lifestyle modifications, medication, or early medical intervention.
The reminder followed an MP’s hospitalisation at IJN
Johari issued the reminder before the start of the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat. He referred to an MP who suffered a serious health problem and was receiving treatment at IJN.
The screening programme is running annually with MOH support
Johari said the annual health screening programme for MPs will continue this year alongside the Ministry of Health (MOH). He noted that the programme has been implemented since 2023.

His office said the incident happened while he was attending Minister’s Question Time and he was scheduled to participate in the debate on the motion on the 2024 Annual Report of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia.
