Muhammad Nazirullah Mohamad Nazlan shifted from chilli to red onions after the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute offered him a collaboration in October and supplied BAW-2 rose onion seeds, technical support, monitoring and guidance. His 500-polybag pilot crop produced 500 to 700 grammes per polybag in March, which convinced him the crop could move beyond trial scale.
