The High Court disagreed that the children would be stateless if they were not recognised as Malaysians, stating they would follow the non-Malaysian mother’s citizenship. This position was made even though the children claimed they were not citizens of any country and, in some instances, had confirmation from embassies such as those of Indonesia and the Philippines that they did not receive citizenship or passports there. As a result, the legal pathway they pursued did not succeed in changing their “non-citizen” status through the courts.
