The authorities also plan to take action under the Water Act 1920 against sand dredging permit holders or other parties found responsible for pollution. For a long-term solution, the state plans to construct a sediment reservoir structure in the upper reaches of Sungai Gunung Berembun to reduce the rate of sediment flowing into Sungai Linggi.
