These agents recognised Penang's potential as a travel destination and proposed offering it as a four-day, three-night package. These packages could be combined with other popular destinations like Langkawi or Singapore to cater to Indian travellers.
Facilitating New Flight Connections

PCEB is collaborating with airlines interested in establishing direct flights to Penang. While current flight options between Penang and India involve layovers in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, the state is exploring initiatives to overcome these connectivity challenges. This includes plans for 150 Indian agents to visit Penang via Star Cruise, followed by travel to Singapore to explore potential package deals.
Boosting the Business Events Sector

The focus on the Indian market is also driven by the consistent growth of Penang's business events industry. The estimated economic impact of this sector reached RM808 million in 2016 and surpassed RM1 billion last year, totalling RM1.002 billion. Initiatives like the Penang International Travel Exchange (PITE), scheduled from September 4 to 8, are designed to maintain Penang's position as a leading business events destination by attracting buyers from the Global Panoramic Showcase.
