Perkasa has issued a warning to the local Chinese community, stating that their signature drive against PAS's proposed amendment to a law could pave the way for hudud. The organisation's information chief, Hassan Basri Muhammad, claimed that the opposition from the Federation of Hokkien Associations Malaysia and Chinese-based political parties constitutes an interference in matters concerning the rights of Muslims. Perkasa views these actions as extreme and rude, potentially inciting racial and religious animosity.

The Federation of Hokkien Associations of Malaysia has been actively collecting signatures, having already gathered 400,000 with a goal of one million, to present to federal lawmakers. This initiative is in response to PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang's private member's Bill, which seeks to enhance the Shariah courts' powers. Hassan Basri asserted that the Bill is exclusively aimed at Muslims and does not threaten non-Muslim practices.

Perkasa is advocating for stern government action against the protesters, with a suggestion for the police to consider utilising the Sedition Act. Hassan Basri emphasised that the PAS Bill's intent is to strengthen the Shariah courts' jurisdiction over Muslims, not to impose restrictions on non-Muslims regarding issues like drinking or gambling. He urged the protesters not to provoke religious sensitivities, as it could jeopardise the country's peace.

Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, the MCA president, has reiterated the party's consistent rejection of Hadi's private member's Bill. Hadi's Bill, which was deferred to the October parliamentary meeting, aims to allow Shariah courts to enforce punishments for Islamic offences, currently capped at three years' imprisonment, six strokes of the whip, or a RM5,000 fine, excluding the death penalty.
