The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that over RM169 million in cash seized from former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his former political secretary now officially belongs to the government. While the forfeiture is complete, the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) has yet to determine whether to bring charges against any party involved in the case.
Forfeiture of Funds Confirmed

The MACC chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, stated that the RM169 million in cash has officially been forfeited to the government. This follows an application made by the MACC under Section 41(1) of the MACC Act 2009, asserting that the money, seized from Mohammad Anuar, belonged to Ismail Sabri and was linked to an offence under Section 36(2) of the same Act. The process of transferring these funds into the government's consolidated fund is now underway.
Diverse Currency Holdings Seized

The substantial sum forfeited includes a significant amount in various foreign currencies. Among the seized cash were RM14,772,150, SGD6,132,350, USD1,461,400, CHF3 million, EUR12,164,150, JPY363,000,000, GBP50,250, NZD44,600, AED34,750,000, and AUD352,850. In addition to the cash, MACC also confiscated 16kg of pure gold bullion, valued at approximately RM7 million, as part of the ongoing corruption and money laundering probe.
DPP's Decision on Charges Pending

Despite the successful forfeiture of the funds, Tan Sri Azam Baki clarified that the decision on whether to press charges rests with the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP). The MACC applied to forfeit the money after it was satisfied that it belonged to Ismail Sabri and was connected to an offence. However, the DPP's deliberation on potential charges is still ongoing, and no definitive decision has been announced regarding the prosecution of any individuals in this matter.
