Female students from the 2021 cohort who are currently in Form 3 will be given priority for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. Catch-up Vaccination Efforts Underway

A significant number of female students have not yet received their HPV vaccinations. As of the latest figures, 336,592 Form 1 female students across the 2020 to 2022 cohorts have not received any dose of the HPV vaccine. The Ministry of Health is committed to ensuring that all female students from the 2021, 2022, and 2023 cohorts receive the vaccine before completing their secondary education.
2021 Cohort Vaccination Shortfall

The HPV vaccination programme for Form 1 students, typically 13-year-olds, faced a setback in 2021 due to global supply disruptions of the vaccine. Consequently, only 34,933 students, representing 15.7 per cent of the 2021 cohort, received their first dose that year. This leaves a substantial 187,151 students, or 84.3 per cent of the 2021 cohort, who have not yet been vaccinated.
Vaccine Procurement and Distribution Challenges

In 2022, the cost of the HPV vaccine saw a six-fold increase. By December of the previous year, only 100,000 doses were procured. These procured vaccines have since been distributed to various states specifically for administering to Form 1 students from the 2021 cohort who are still awaiting their vaccination. The Ministry of Health anticipates finalising its next procurement in the third quarter of the current year.
