The Dewan Rakyat committee has put forward the suggestion of capping attendance at 80 MPs. This limit is comparable to the restriction imposed during the last parliamentary session, which allowed only 80 out of 222 MPs to be physically present. Under the current proposal, MPs would be able to rotate their attendance to ensure that the limit of 80 is maintained for each Dewan Rakyat session.
Session Duration and Current MP Count

Each Dewan Rakyat session is slated to last approximately four hours, with distinct morning and afternoon periods. The morning session is scheduled from 10am to 1pm, followed by the afternoon session from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. Currently, the total number of MPs stands at 220, as two parliamentary seats remain vacant due to the passing of two MPs. The figure of 80 MPs represents about 36 per cent, or slightly more than one-third, of the total available seats.
Focus on Covid-19 and National Recovery Plan

During these special sittings, MPs are expected to direct their questions solely to ministers and deputy ministers concerning Covid-19 issues. The agenda will also include briefings for MPs on the National Recovery Plan, the Covid-19 vaccination programme, the implementation of the Emergency, and economic stimulus packages. While MPs will be given the opportunity to seek explanations and share their views during these briefings, the customary parliamentary debates are not included in the schedule for these five-day sittings.
