The rumours of the rally originated from a Facebook account named “Papagomo Original,” which claimed that 12 NGOs, including Pekida and Perkasa, had agreed to assemble at Low Yat Plaza. However, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar clarified that the blogger, Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, also known as Papagomo, is currently detained under remand.

This incident reportedly began after a man was handed over to the police for allegedly stealing a mobile phone, with unverified social media rumours suggesting the trader had sold a counterfeit product. A total of 24 individuals, including Papagomo, have been arrested in connection with the riot.
