Perikatan Nasional Claims Sufficient Support to Form Government

Perikatan Nasional (PN) announced it has submitted statutory declarations (SDs) from over 112 Members of Parliament (MPs), indicating their support for PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the prime minister candidate. This submission follows an extension of the deadline by the Istana Negara for coalitions to present their numbers to form the federal government. Article 43 of the Federal Constitution stipulates that a simple majority, which translates to more than 112 MPs, is required in the Dewan Rakyat for the appointment of a prime minister.
Support from Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah

Key to PN's claimed majority is the backing of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS). Leaders from these two coalitions met with Muhyiddin Yassin and subsequently agreed to nominate him as the prime minister. Combined, GPS and GRS contribute 28 seats to the bloc supporting Muhyiddin.
